| Home: Help: Plug Ins |
|
Plug-Ins are "helper" programs that your browser needs in order to run other programs. The Internet is diverse and some web sites use sophisticated files that need other programs to run them, like you need a spreadsheet program in order to view a spreadsheet file. Since your web browser doesn't know which ones you'll need, you have to "plug-in" these programs by downloading them from a site. You might use a plug-in to play a video game, listen to live music or watch a film clip or animation. Netscape and Internet Explorer will need to have these plug-ins added to them in order to communicate effectively with some web sites. |
If you come across plug-ins which are needed to run a web-site you need to access, be sure to contact your school media specialist or technology coordinator before installing them on the computer.Even though most plug-ins are easy to install, some may change your computers internal settings.
